Homemaker Assistance
Service Description
Homemaker Assistance provides non-medical support services designed to help clients maintain a clean, safe, and orderly home environment. Services are provided to individuals who may have difficulty completing routine household tasks due to age, disability, illness, or temporary limitations. This self-pay service promotes independence, comfort, and overall well-being while allowing clients to remain safely in their homes.
Authorized Tasks
Homemaker Assistance may include the following non-medical household support services:
Light housekeeping (dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming)
Kitchen cleaning (wiping countertops, washing dishes, cleaning appliances’ exterior)
Bathroom cleaning (sanitizing sinks, toilets, tubs/showers)
Laundry services (washing, drying, folding, and putting away clothing)
Linen changes and bed making
Trash removal and basic home tidying
Meal preparation (simple meals only, no special diets unless specified)
Grocery shopping and errand assistance (client funds only)
Organization of commonly used household areas
Cleaning of client-used living spaces
Monitoring household safety hazards and reporting concerns to client or representative
Service Limitations
Homemaker Assistance does not include medical, skilled, or personal care services. The following tasks are not authorized under this service:
Hands-on personal care (bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming)
Medication administration or reminders
Medical treatments, assessments, or monitoring
Lifting or transferring clients
Skilled nursing or therapy services
Deep cleaning, hoarding clean-outs, or biohazard cleaning
Exterior home maintenance (yard work, snow removal, roof or gutter cleaning)
Home repairs, heavy furniture moving, or use of power tools
Handling of client finances, bill payments, or legal matters
Care for individuals requiring continuous supervision or skilled intervention
Services are limited to tasks outlined in the agreed-upon service plan and may be adjusted based on client needs, safety considerations, and staff scope of practice.
